Healing Through Art
Art of Counseling Services
Art Therapy: Art therapy harnesses the expressive power of art to aid individuals in communicating, managing stress, and exploring facets of their personalities. It’s rooted in the belief that artistic self-expression facilitates conflict resolution, problem-solving, interpersonal skill development, behavior management, stress reduction, boosted self-esteem and self-awareness, and gaining insight. Art therapy blends psychotherapeutic techniques with creative processes to enhance well-being.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Art of Counseling’s approach revolves around providing clients with comprehensive Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other supportive therapies in a warm, collaborative setting without judgment. DBT is effective in helping individuals with out-of-control cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns. DBT emphasizes a balance between opposites by prioritizing acceptance and change, with therapists balancing validation and problem-solving techniques.
EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a well-researched psychotherapy method effective for treating trauma and various distressing life experiences such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. Unlike traditional therapy, EMDR doesn’t necessitate detailed discussion of the issue or homework between sessions; instead, it facilitates the brain’s natural healing process. Combining EMDR with art therapy enhances its effectiveness by boosting self-esteem, emotional stability, and resilience to life stressors.
Trauma-Informed Approach: A trauma-informed approach is distinct from trauma-specific treatments, enabling it to be applied in various service settings and organizations. It revolves around six key principles: safety, trustworthiness and transparency, peer support, collaboration and mutuality, empowerment, voice and choice, and consideration of cultural, historical, and gender issues. This approach prioritizes linking individuals and families affected by trauma to recovery and resilience through evidence-based services that emphasize engagement, empowerment, and collaboration.
Telemental Health: Art of Counseling offers teletherapy services across Minnesota, providing individual, couples, and group therapy/training using secure, high-quality video tools. Clients can participate from anywhere with a private space and a good internet connection, using their own art materials during sessions guided by Art Therapists. Teletherapy is a time saving tool that expands access and reduces stigma with effective results.
